Official Plan & Zoning
SSPL has been doing this for decades. We have a thorough understanding of the strengths, weaknesses and intricacies of Ontario's Planning, policy and regulatory environments. We know this inside and out, and we believe the good Planning always puts people first.
Public Consultation
We have designed and managed many successful comprehensive public consultation programs, most notably the South Kent Restructuring exercise and the hosting of several public information meetings involving high profile and sometimes controversial Planning issues.
Project Management
SSPL has extensive experience leading or participating in multidisciplinary teams, not only in Planning matters but also in several multi-million dollar building and development projects while partnering with a local architectural firm or environmental consultant.
Local Relationships
We have an excellent working relationship with the Chatham-Kent Planning Department and with neighbouring municipalities and staff. Wherever you’re looking to build, we probably know the staff there by name.
SSPL maintains an up-to-date mapping database keeping us well-informed as to the current status of this vital component of any planning application.
Deep Connections
Through life-long professional, business and community activities we have forged strong relationships with many important stakeholders in the Land-Use Planning and development process. This includes developers, consultants, renewable energy providers, contractors, non-government organizations, service groups, and other local government sectors.
Innovative Solutions
SSPL has always pushed the envelope in our approach to resolving Planning and development problems. We are especially proud of our proactive approach taken on the Ridge Landfill and the Joint Planning Agreements. These are both notable and precedent-setting achievements.
OMB/LPAT Experts
We have never lost an OMB Hearing where we have represented a municipal client. More importantly, due to our reliance on meaningful public consultation and mediation of disputes, we avoid the frequency of OMB Hearings found in other municipalities.
Farm Development
As our firm is based in a prime agricultural area much of our work is done in rural areas. We have considerable experience with farm severances, greenhouse development, and livestock Minimum Distance Separation (MDS I & II) matters.
Farm Consulting
The agricultural community faces many ongoing challenges with changes to governing legislation and a wide variety of municipal Planning policies. We encourage farmers facing succession & estate planning, expansion and other concerns to become fully informed and explore all options.
“It has been my privilege to have worked with Tom Storey on many different projects over the years. In addition to being very competent, reliable and professional, Tom has always provided valuable guidance and judgement.”
