David French holds the position of Planner/Planning Technician and has been with SSPL since July of 2007. He holds Full Membership in the Canadian Association of Certified Planning Technicians and is a former Vice-President and Treasurer of the governing Council. He was recently awarded a Life Membership in the CACPT.

As Planner/Planning Technician, David is responsible for all phases of the Planning Act process. This includes front-line interaction with new and existing clients, processing and reviewing new Planning Act applications; performing pre-consultation research and interviews; drafting of various maps; Planning justification reports; as well as preparing both print and electronic media presentations for various public and Council meetings.

On occasion over the past four years David has provided interim Planning services for several Southwestern Ontario municipalities to cover departmental vacancies. This has given him first-hand exposure to how many different local governments deal with Planning Act applications.

Mr. French has two children. He has a strong belief in community and that one should lead by example.  Throughout his life he has made an effort to help his community by volunteering his time and resources to community projects and committees, which include:

  • Secretary and Director of the Rotary Club of Blenheim

  • Past President of the Rotary Club of Blenheim

  • Past Assistant Governor of Rotary District 6380

  • Past-Commodore and Advisor of the Rondeau Yacht Club which provides sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, and swimming instruction for children

  • Past Director of the Rondeau Cottagers Association

David is an advocate for common-sense Planning, and believes “with good communication… listening, considering, and speaking… you can always facilitate a win-win approach” to just about anything work – or life – throws at you.
